My favorite content marketing podcasts for 2022

How have your podcast listening habits changed over the past year? Before, when I drove to work in the morning, I made the most of my morning routine by listening to my favorite podcasts.

Now that remote working is the norm, it was a little harder to plan on time to turn it on, but I definitely find ways to do it during my week (while running errands, making dinner, etc.). With still not attending live conferences (and attending very few face-to-face meetings), podcasts have become an essential and effective way for me to stay up to date on industry trends, headlines, and expert perspectives that I may otherwise miss .

Over the past few years, I've experimented with dozens of marketing podcasts and tweaked my listening to only include the really useful ones. These five have proven to be a lifeline during the pandemic when the world was changing - and so were the needs of the public.

That old marketing

For me, a list of content marketing podcasts has to start with This Old Marketing, a long-running show from the Content Marketing Institute (and for the sake of transparency, this is my company's partner for the Women in Content Marketing Awards). Each episode features a fun and informative conversation between marketing experts Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose. Recent topics ranged from tackling the coronavirus pandemic to news about the merger of media companies. New episodes are released every two weeks and typically last around an hour, so this is a great choice for anyone looking for a deep dive into anything marketing-related.

Explicit content podcast

Okay, the name sounds a little controversial, but the topics covered are certainly very thoughtful and relevant to today's content marketing landscape. The Explicit Content Podcast features a rotating array of hosts and offers fascinating insights into marketing tactics and strategies for success for influencer marketing, content creation for TikTok, and more.

Copyblogger FM

Copyblogger is an established brand in the content marketing world, and the Copyblogger FM podcast is an extension of the expertise and content tips that you can find on the website. The episodes are pretty short (usually around 30 minutes), but they are usually very tactical and offer actionable advice on how to write better content, improve your email marketing strategy, and improve SEO for your website's content.

Content matters

Sponsored by Ingeniux, a content management system, this podcast naturally focuses on web content management as well as UX design and the technology behind great content publishing. A guest expert can be seen in each episode. Recent topics have included how to deliver a great content experience to your audience and what role content can play in a company's revenue strategy. It offers valuable insights into this particular area of content marketing.

Marketing about coffee

While nothing beats a great one-on-one coffee chat to talk shop with a coworker or friend, this podcast could be the next best thing. Each episode of Marketing Over Coffee is around 20 minutes long so you can really listen to them over a coffee break. Co-hosts John J. Wall and Christopher S. Penn interview a wide variety of guests each week and have casual conversations about everything from search engine marketing to offline marketing campaigns. The chatty nature of the show makes it almost a little easier to internalize the tips and tricks each guest shares, but don't be afraid to actually take notes as you listen.
