Securities and financial services regulators warn against depictions of crypto companies
- Check the register of companies and persons authorized to practice or contact the AMF Information Center to find out whether the company or person is properly registered with the AMF
- Once registration is confirmed, call the company or individual using the phone number listed on the register to confirm that the solicitation is from that particular company or individual
- If the company or individual is not registered, immediately report the situation to an AMF Information Center agent
- Do not give out any personal information or payments until following the previous steps
In another press release, FSRA urged consumers to be cautious when contacting Ellite Cryptominer, which operates through https://www.ellitecryptominer.com, or anyone claiming to represent the company.
The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), which replaced the FSRA in June 2019, has never licensed Ellite Cryptominer to conduct securities business in Ontario, despite the company's use of an FSCO logo and despite its claim by the FSCO and the registrar are licensed to be the company for England and the UK, the press release states.
The FSRA does not license any person or company to conduct any securities business, including cryptocurrency exchanges that offer trading in securities. It is the Ontario Securities Commission that has primary responsibility for securities regulation in the province, while the Financial Conduct Authority regulates cryptocurrency exchanges in the UK
